Platypus

Tasmanian platypus are generally bigger than their mainland cousins.

Platypuses are identified by their streamlined body, webbed feet (platypus is Latin for ‘flat foot’), broad tail and characteristic duck-like bill.

Platypuses are found in slow-flowing streams, rivers and in lakes and dams.

In Tasmania, platypuses are common in the lakes of the Tasmanian Central Highlands and in the rivers and streams of the south and north-west coasts and apart from those on Kig Island they are bigger than their mainland cousins.
